EPE’s Vicki Mitchell raises money for Macmillan Cancer Charity with Brave the Shave

Earlier this month, EPE’s Vicki Mitchell, Warehouse Operative participated in Brave the Shave to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer charity.

Vicki decided on Brave The Shave for the charity as a way to thank Macmillan for all they do to support, not only those suffering with cancer, but their families too.  Vicki herself experienced the help the charity provides when her own family members had cancer and this helped drive her desire to give back and raise money for MacMillan through Brave the Shave.

Vicki raised over £375 for Macmillan through sponsors and we at EPE are happy to have supported her in raising money for such a well-deserving charity.

Thank you for participating in EPE’s Do Good December event

EPE would like to thank everyone who participated in our Do Good December, running all through out December. We wanted to give back to our customers and the community and you have all helped us to do so.

In total we raised £660 between the three of our nominated charities:

Age UK
You helped us raise £260 for Age UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of older people in our communities.

Barnado’s
You helped us raise £240 for Barnado’s, a charity dedicated to helping disadvantaged children and empowering the voices of the young people to better their futures.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity
You helped us raise £160 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, a charity dedicated to treating childhood illnesses and supporting the families of those with sick children.

We would also like to congratulate once again the winners of our prize draws: Beric Appliances Cranbrook; Watson Home Hardware and Ian Black Domestic Appliances.

Thank you again to all who participated, we hope to continue to support such well – deserving charities in the future.

EPE donates to The Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal

This year, in lieu of an office secret santa, the EPE team has decided to do some good for those in need and run a collection in the office for gifts for the The Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal.

The Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal helps to ensure a child who may not otherwise receive a gift, has a present to open at Christmas. The whole team got involved to bring in a whole host of presents, and putting them under our office Christmas tree to before they were taken to out local Salvation Army centre so they could wrap and distribute them before Christmas.

Along with this the team also collected unwanted, clean warm clothing, outer clothing and shoes to be donated to the local homeless shelter to help those who need it the most, especially at this time of year.

Barnado’s is a charity that helps protect, support and nurture the UK’s most vulnerable children. They work to help children through the trauma of sexual abuse and exploitation. They provide support for young people in care, give children caring for a loved one the help and support they deserve. That’s not all, their specialist workers support families through domestic abuse, mental health problems, prison sentences, asylum seeking and much more. They also amplify the voices of young people to influence Government on the issues that affect their lives, fighting their corner and making sure their voices are heard. Their aim is simple – to provide the best outcome for every child, no matter who they are or what they have been through.

AGE UK are the UK’s leading charity working with older people. Offering them information and advice on money and legal matters, health and wellbeing, care and support and even offering them avenues to assist them in in finding hobbies, travel and work advice. They also champion campaigns and research into making sure older people have a better later life. 

They tackle major issues that affect older people in the UK, such as loneliness and isolation. 1.4 million older people struggle with loneliness in the UK and 225,000 say that they often go a whole week without speaking to anyone. Their Donate Your Words campaign is playing a big part in helping to tackle this with encouraging people to reach out to the older people in their families, neighbourhoods and communities and just having a conversation.

A Thank You from Mind

This week we received a letter from Mind one of the two charities we raised money for last month and we would like to share the letter with you all.
 
On behalf of Mind I wanted to thank you and your colleagues at EPE International for your generous donation of £498. We are incredibly grateful for your support. With your help, we can help people like Adam:
 
“Without Mind I wouldn’t be here today.  Mind helped me see my positives, my strengths and how my future wasn’t as solitary and scary as I had thought.  They helped me turn my life around and manage what I now know is my bipolar.”
 
Please pass on our thanks and gratitude for nominating Mind and donating to us as your support will help us improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health issues. 
 
Last year, our network of over 140 local Minds in England and Wales supported 390,000 people through services such as counselling, back to work mentoring, and therapy. More than 60,000 people spoke to our dedicated helplines, and 16.7 million people visited the mental health information pages of our Mind website. 41,000 people received direct support through our online community Elefriends, which users describe as ‘life-saving’.
 
We hope to continue working to help such worthy causes as Mind in the future and are grateful that there are charities such as these working so hard to support and improve people’s lives.

EPE’s Fundraising Bonanza for Children In Need 2019, featuring Special Guest Judge Steve Marsh from Tefal!

The EPE team has really been getting into the fundraising spirit for Children In Need 2019 with an in office Bake Off style competition; where the participants had their creations judged in a blind taste test on taste and appearance by our special guest judge Steve Marsh, Channel Controller for Groupe SEB; who very kindly also purchased some of the cakes after the competition to aid our fundraising efforts for this wonderful cause.

The winner of our Bake Off competition was Sophie Stead, Purchase Controller at EPE; with Natasha Copeman, Head of Internal Sales and Debra Nichols, Internal Sales Manager – Electrical Wholesalers coming in at a joint second place. Take a look all of the delicious bakes below.

After the competition the cakes were then sold in our head office, as you can imagine they were sold pretty quickly. The fun didn’t stop there; the team also took part in the Annual Children In Need Duck Race Sweepstake 2019; the competition was rife. With prizes up for grabs and the motivation to do some good for a good cause everyone was eager to cheer on their pun-tastic duck to the finish line. Though in the end the duck known only as Beakwell Tart won the race, albeit without its cherry and Iwona Grabowska, Accounts Administrator won the sweepstake.

In total the EPE team raised £251.08 that will go to the Children in Need charity.

Here at EPE we’re always looking for ways we can give back to the community; watch this space for more fundraising activities on the run up to Christmas!
